Facts and Clarity on Ammonium Alum
Did you know that Alum (Ammonium Alum) has an EWG (Environmental Working Group) rating of 1 (1 being the best, 10 being the worst)Alum is a naturally occurring mineral salt also known as Tschermigite. It is mined in dry, arid climates, as it requires low moisture levels to form. The Ammonium Alum we source from the USA and is 100% cruelty free. Alum is a versatile salt and commonly used in the process of water purification, tanning, vegetable pickling, and vegetable-based adhesives. Our Alum is kosher, made for food and internal use, most commonly for pickling.
We use Alum only in our natural deodorant, Deozein. Its function is to keep underarms feeling dry, clean and smelling fresh. Due to its molecular weight and salt structure, Alum is not readily available for absorption by the skin, which is why it is such an effective ingredient in natural deodorants. The salt sits on our skin and protects us from body odor.
