Unfortunately there is no quick fix in getting rid of fleas because 95% of the problem exists as the immature life cycle stages in the environment - these are eggs, larvae and pupae.

The best strategy for effective flea control is to break the life cycle by exterminating fleas on the pet with a licensed veterinary product and taking the following steps:

Make sure you treat all pets in the household with a suitable product.
Allow your pet(s) continued access to where they usually go throughout the home.
Thoroughly vacuum and clean carpets, soft furnishings and bedding, including your pet's bed to remove eggs, larvae and pupae - this will help to speed up eradication.
Be patient, it could take weeks or even months to completely get rid of fleas depending on the degree of infestation and 2 or 3 treatments may be necessary.
Worm your pet with a broad spectrum wormer such as WORM SCREEN because fleas can transmit tapeworm.

Facts about fleas...


Female flea Fleas emerge from pupae and jump on your pet to feed. They begin to have a blood meal within 10-15 minutes and usually congregate around the neck, ears and tail base although in cats they may be more difficult to see because of grooming.	Flea eggs 24 hours after having a blood meal, female fleas will lay up to about 50 eggs per day in your pet's coat. These eggs will drop off your pet as they walk about the house, garden or anywhere else they go!	Flea larva When the eggs hatch, larvae will emerge and migrate through carpets and under furniture away from sunlight to develop into pupae.	Flea pupa Pupae are very resistant and can survive up to 12 months in the home which is why flea infestations can persist. Warmth, moisture and vibration can stimulate pupation when the new flea emerges and is why we see a flush of flea activity late autumn when the nights get colder and the central heating is turned on.

Fipronil kills adult fleas and ticks on the pet and S-methoprene sterilises flea eggs, preventing them from hatching as well as inhibiting the development of flea larvae. Contains 2 active ingredients: fipronil & S-methoprene, which have a dual action on the flea life cycle - this reduces flea eggs and larvae in the environment which can cause flea problems to persist. Each pipette provides 4 weeks cat flea treatment. Apply the drops onto the skin at the back of the neck or between the shoulder blades and administer monthly for best results.
