Kokum butter is a hard butter that contains nutrients and antioxidants which help nourish and repair damaged, cracked skin. It is naturally flaky and brittle when at room temperature making it popular for its stability. Once it comes into contact with your skin it melts and absorbs easily leaving it feeling soft and moist without a greasy residue.
Kokum Butter can be used on its own though it is more popular as an ingredient and thickener in lotions, soaps and body butters. Kokum is a vegan butter and is safe for all skin types.
Kokum butter comes from the seeds of the Kokum tree (Garcinia indica) and is indigenous to the tropical rain forests of the Western Ghats of South India. Kokum was used in the practice of Ayurvedic medicine, one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems, and has been cited in many Ayurvedic texts including Charak Samhita, Dravya Gun Vijnana and more. Kokum was commonly prescribed for the treatment of inflammation, ear infections, dermatitis, and to soothe irritable bowel syndrome and more.
Kokum Butter would be perfect for anybody making lipsticks, balms, soaps & lotions as it has excellent emollient properties and a high melting point which helps keep it from melting as fast in hot weather.
ABOUT KOKUM
BENEFITS OF KOKUM
ORIGIN
WHO IT'S FOR
Melt 3.5 oz of Kokum Butter in a double boiler on low heat.
Stir in 1 oz of Jojoba Oil.
Remove from the heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of gold mica.
Let cool for about 15 minutes and then add 40 drops of your choice of essential oils and stir.
Then pour into your molds and place in the fridge for an hour or until they are solid.
Remove from the molds and they are ready.
Pour 6 oz of Jojoba oil over 2 cups of dry Chamomile flowers in a large mason jar with a lid. Make sure the oil fully covers the flowers.
Place the mason jar in a double boiler on low heat for about 4 hours. Stir the contents occasionally.
Remove from the heat and strain out the flowers.
Now melt 1 oz of Kokum Butter and 2 oz of Mango Butter in a double boiler
Remove from the heat and add 3 oz of the infused oil, and add additional optional essential oils of choice. Mix until fully combined.
Cover and place in a fridge until it's firm, but not completely solid.
Then whip until the mixture is nice and fluffy and scoop the whipped butter into a jar for storage.
You can use Kokum Butter in any of your usual cold-process soap recipes in place of Cocoa Butter for a luscious soap that lathers beautifully.
We recommend using up to 5% of Kokum Butter as using more will create a soap that is too hard and could cause cracking.
