Bicycle bottom brackets occasionally require removal for service, replacement, or upgrading. The Park Tool BBT-22 is a shop quality tool for installing and removing bottom brackets with tool fittings with 20 splines and a diameter of 32mm. This fitting is found on many models of cartridge bottom brackets, including Shimano, Truvativ, RaceFace, FSA, and others. The tool clears the oversized spindles of ISIS Drive and Octalink cranksets. Also fits some models of crankset lockrings such as Race Face. The investment cast steel body utilizes a flat tooth profile to ensure maximum engagement with bottom bracket cups. The BBT-22 fits tool fittings with 20 splines and a diameter of 32mm. The BBT-22 features a 3/8" drive fitting and 1" wrench flats, allowing the tool to be driven using an adjustable wrench, ratcheting handle, or 3/8" drive torque wrench.

Here's how to determine the correct tool for you, if you have an threaded or thread-together bottom bracket:


Count Splines/Notches Remove the crank and inspect the bottom bracket shell for tool fittings, which can be notches or indentations on the outer perimeter, splines on the inside perimeter, or pin holes on the face. Count the number of tool fittings on the cup.	Measure Diameter Next use a caliper to measure the diameter or width of the tool fittings. For tool fittings on the inside perimeter, measure to the outside of where the tool would fit as seen in the image above. Take the measurement in millimeters.
